Glenneith Burgess

Elder  Glen  Burgess and I first met after he came to know the Lord, more than 40 years ago.   We have shared pulpits down throgh the years and enjoyed every moment of time together.   The laughs are too many to recall.  This year, 2011 ,  our church was blessed on two different Sundays  to hear the tremendous preaching of Bro. Burgess, and along with our wives, we enjoyed a week of fiun cruising the Carribbean.   Not knowing that would be our last time together, on this earth.    I read recently, that a preacher is only  successful it he can move people, and move people toward God.  To be able to accomplish that a minster  must have anointing and some also have a gift.  Br. Glenn Burgess had the anointing and the gift and I witnessed it in his life and preaching many times over the last 40 plus years.    I have thought of late, how God made mountains and rocks that are millions of years old, trees that have survived thousands of years, yet man, the crowning glory of creation, is allotted a span of threescore and ten.   Elder Glenn Burgess got a llot of out of his years, yet some have more than he did.   Probably his greatest and most enduring accomplishment was the founding of a strong apostolic church in Chelalis,  Washington.   Out of his marriage to his dear wife, Rose, came forth a son that God allowed him time to mentor and groom as his successor in that church.   From that decision the legacy and ministry of Elder Burgess, can endure till the rapture.    To our old friend, and comrade in the gospel,  we bid you farewell for a while.   I'll  see you in the morning, where we will part no more.  Sis Rose , children, and church family, you are in our prayers.  Respectfully,    Bro. It was always a pleasant surprise when Elder Glenn Burgess showed up in the Shelton church to preach for us - usually on a Thursday night.  His preaching was enhanced by his sense of mischief and his obvious enjoyment of life.  When he preached, I often thought of the scripture that promises that if we'll delight ourselves in the Lord, He will give us the desires of our hearts. 

Glenn Burgess was a man who delighted himself in the Lord - and it showed.  After the service, I always shook his hand and told him truthfully that I had found his preaching delightful.  I didn't explain that I found it so, because he was so full of the delight of the Lord. The greatest desire of the heart of those of us who follow the Lord is that we will one day be with Him forever. 

Congratulations, Elder!  You made it home - to the everlasting delight of our Lord.

Our first memory of the Burgess Family was when they came to Waynesboro,MS in the early 70's to pastor the church. I was their first convert. And convert is what they did. We knew absolutely nothing about church and they instilled the ultimate truth in us and it has substained and made us strong.Without this strong foundation we would have never survived all these yrs. I cry to think where we would be if they had not come to our town. They were the braviest of soldiers to go out on a mission so young. Words cannot express how thankful we are that out paths have crossed and you also befriended us. We treasure your friendship. Our hearts are so broken for this wonderful family that has lost this precious man of God. But His reward is much greater than we can imagine. We just have to strive more to make it and not let His teaching be in vain. Our prayers are with you Sis Burgess, Carla, & Shannon and your families.

I really like reading these posts.   I'm really struggling with what has happened as everyone is.   It hurts so much.   I always knew I loved Uncle Glenneith, but I didn't realize how much I loved him until now.   I take comfort from this song that I have liked for some time and I like it more now because it's one I think he would have really liked.    I couldn't find just audio or I would have linked to that.   I had to link to a video and this is the best one I could find.

I will never forget Elder Burgess, he was my very first Pastor,baptized me and the first person I had called after I recieved the holyghost at the age of 5! He was such a kind man,always letting me know after I had moved away that the church was always my home and he loved me and would always be there for me. I am privelaged to say that I have known such a special,faithful,livingforGod,staying behind the word,kind,caring man!! I will always remember every moment I have shared with him, his warm hugs and wonderful smile!



I love you Elder Burgess and will never forget you, Can't wait to see you on the other side.
