Memories
Honey Baker

I have many many memories of Pastor Burgess as I had the pleasure of being raised in his church. My parents moved back to Centralia just shortly after Bro and Sister Burgess took the little church over on the corner of Diamond and Magnolia. I have had his influence in my life for close to thirty five years now and even though I have not attended his church for the past ten years his preaching has been a rock to me and has kept me through many many trials. He taught me to get back up, brush my self off  and keep walking even if I felt I couldn't make it. Thank You Brother Burgess for letting me know that you forgave me for failing God and for disappointing you. Your forgiveness meant so much to me. You will never know what it meant to me to have you say I love you Honey Ann and I am glad you are here. That is all I really came to that Youth Quest for and then when you remembered  something I had asked you  several years before well you made me feel like I was and had always been important to you. Thank You for all the beautiful memories.
I am Thankful  that you were  sensitive to God and that you were used of God. Brother Burgess when you  followed the leading of the lord and decided to have a tent revival in September of 1977. Your decision to have a tent revival changed the course of my families future forever. As I recall (from the stories that my Mother has told over the years) you took the idea to the men of the little church (my father was included in that meeting tho he had not yet recieved the Holy Ghost)  My Father Leroy Hamilton recieved the HolyGhost in that tent meeting. He died suddenly two months later on NOV 5th 1977 in a Saturday night service praying in the altar praying  for two of his neices to get filled with the HOLY GHOST. Wow tent revivals and church services on Saturday just  think about it. Thank God that  you were  not afraid to have church. Brother and Sister Burgess you  helped me and my MOTHER get through a very dark time in our lives without you both we would have ended up who knows where.  One of my fondest and dearest memories is when You (Bro Burgess ) baptized me in the Skookumchuck River when I was just nine years of age. I remember you saying Honey Ann I believe your Daddy is looking down from Heaven right now and rejoicing.  I recieved the Holy Ghost shortly after that  when I was ten. I know that you prayed many prayers for me. All I can say is Thank You.
Brother Burgess  never knew that I knew it but he and Sister Burgess paid our power bill for a whole year when I was growing up.  It was the things he did that noone knew about that made him special to me. It was his steadfastness that keeps me keeping on today. My Daddy will be so happy to hear all that you have to tell him about the Jesus Name Pentecostal Church of Chehalis.Tell him I am going to make it and will you Please tell him that I loved to sing and praise the Lord and that I didn't slouch around.=) Love Honey Ann

In the early 70's I first met the man who taught me what I needed to know to make heaven my home. This man was Elder Burgess, a man who was truly sent of God to preach the gosple.
Romans 10:15, “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
I will always love and appreciate the word of God that he left with me in my heart.

In 2005 my wife and I were building a house and living in a 5th wheel on our property. We didn't have are septic in yet so there was an issue with waste disposal. Me having a great mind to solve problems ( and not wanting to put this stuff in buckets) decided to take my excavator and dig a big hole right outside the septic hook up on our trailer.  Well it rains alot in Chehalis in October and the route  to get close to my trailer took me over where we had burried our power line (soft ground).  I managed to get the hole dug drained the waste into the hole and by the time I was finished I was stuck in the mud and some other stuff up over my tracks....  Time to call the Elder ( he's got a cat) Elder Burgess came right over looked at the situation made a crack something about keeping ourselves out of the cess pools of this world (HA! HA!)  we went to his house picked up his cat and he pulled me out.  It always seemed that the Elder had the right tools to get us out of jams and back on solid ground.

I"am going to miss the way he used his wit and humor to teach and connect with people... I love you Elder Burgess.  See you again Elder when God pulls us out of this cess pool!:)

One the memories that sticks out more in my mind is a couple of years ago wen one of are little church buses wouldn't start @ Bro Bow's we hand taken the van and the little bus, and me, you my dad and derrick went up to go get it we talk and crack'd jokes, and as we dorve by a crew of consturstin worker's you rolled down the glass and yell'd out, Hay get to work! or as we pass by a state trooper that was wirteing a tickit you yell'd out "Hey leave them alone" i think my dad push'ed the window lock affter that, you were alway's a joy to be with when ever your were around it didn't take long for the converstaion to get around too the work of God and things of God and what God's done in our live's. I will miss seeing you every Tuesday morning at men's breakfast as we sit around and try too solve all the world's probblem's which now for you, they have been. thank you for the legacy you have left which will have a grate impact in lives to come

I don't really know where to start so I guess I'll just start here. I have known Elder Burgess for around 20 years now. While as a child/teenager I saw him as strict and intimidating, always trying to avoid him, when I look back on everything now I see things so differently. I see how solid you were in what you believed and taught us. I see how much you loved me and tried to be a good, strong influence in my life. And you have been such an encredible influence to me. You taught me so much and so much of it was just by living the way you did. I have met very few people in my life as honest, loving, generous, and true to their convictions as you always were. And the part I hate the most is that in all those years, I don't think that I once told you thank you. I wish so much I could have that chance, to tell you that. I keep replaying all these memories in my head and the one that just keeps poppin right up is visiting the church and seeing you all the way across the sanctuary. And you were just already on a set course, straight toward me with that big ol' grin on your face. I am going to miss you so much. This world doesn't feel the same without you in it. I can only hope that you now know how much I love you, and respect you, and will foreveer miss you. No words will ever clearly describe what you meant to every person privledged enough to know you..
