Memories

The first time I met Elder Burgess was September 1979 in the ole' little church on the corner of Magnolia and Diamond ST, in Centralia. As my life's journey would take me down many different roads; in August of 1996 my path would meet up with Elder once again. My life was a mess and full of turmoil. I was invited to Anniversary services and I went bringing my four young children with me...my life has been forever changed!I married my boyfriend and eventually he started to come to church with me. With Elder's guidance and direction who helped form us into better citizens. Elder Burgess you will forever live in my memories and my heart. Thank you for helping us and showing us what is right. Until we meet again~

Just 7 short weeks ago, a long term friendship was rekindeled.  Elder and Sis. Rose Burgess reconnected with the Woodsons and with Vancouver UPC, and the result took this Pastor back many years to a revival that we and members of that day have not forgotten. I will to this day remember, "If Walls Could Talk, Oh What A Story They Could Tell."  Those 'walls' spoke again October 2, 2011, and the message was as true as it was in times gone by.  We were honored that this truly Christian couple would spend a Sunday with us, a day that will be cherished by us all.

To know that though life has limits, yet eternal life has no time limit, I am encouraged in that Heaven's appeal has been made greater to me, knowing that another soldier, yea General, of the Cross has received his reward.  It always leaves a leadership void when men the caliber of Elder Burgess leave us. But I am encouraged to know that his vision was not limited to legacy; rather, he took the Heritage God gave him in his wife, his son, and his daughter, and pursued God's purpose to its limit.  The result is clear: A godly wife, a godly daughter and her family, and a godly son, he bearing the mantle of Heritage building, and taking it to greater levels of influence and fruitfulness.

To this end, we salute you, Elder Burgess!  May your reward encourage us all toward the same successful life conclusion!!

To My Elder,

There are so many wonderful memories of you but the things I will really miss and I had such a hard time with on Sunday morning while singing with Vibrant Praise are just the little things. You always loved when we sang 4 days late. You would kick your leg up and say "whoo sing it girls!" Shortly before you got really sick this last time, you came to me and asked us to sing "what's wrong with living right". I'm sorry we never got to it. If I could do it over, I would have done it more quickly.

Another small thing I will remember was the way you would sit with your leg crossed over the other one and you would laugh with your mouth wide open and when you got to laughing or preaching hard, your hair on the right side of your head, behind your ear would stick straight up. 8)

You always took time to come up to me, jason, sky, and payton and wrap your arms around us and say you loved us.

One memory I will never forget is before I was married, I was going through a very difficult time. Although I was young and some could have just thought I was a rebelious teenager...you really cared. I was crying and my heart was breaking and you came to me and wrapped your arms around me and cried with me and helped me fight through my battle. Because of you and Pastor Shannon Burgess, I am the Mother and Wife and Faithful saint I am today.

I am blessed to have had Elder take part in my wedding and both my childrens dedication. I love you very much Elder and I will honor you by living right and raising my children right. We will see you just beyond the gate.

Love,
Sis Misty...or like you would say....Mitsy

Truth could not have been better represented.
Honesty could not have been better illustrated.
Love could not have been better exemplified.
A life could not have been better lived.
My soul is full of Joy that God gave me you for a father.
There is a height of respect and reverence in my heart, which your lifetime of actions has marked out. The admiration I feel is cemented in place, not by the mere fact that you were my father, but by the core value system that made you who you were.

I love you in a way that words fall short of describing. My love could be fully expressed only by the relationship we lived out day by day encircled with a hedge of wholeness just as you taught me it should be.

Your Son

Elder was my pastor for 28 yrs. and he had a great impact on my life. I can't express enough how much he meant to me. He was a man of great character, someone you could image your life after. A true man of God! I miss him dearly, however I know that this world is not my home...I'm just passing through, and I'm looking forward to seeing him again on street's of gold.
